Fair usage policy

The free layer — this website, the CSV downloads and llms-full.txt — exists so the verified figures spread with attribution. These terms keep it sustainable.

What you can do

Reuse current-period headline figures under CC BY 4.0: republish, chart, quote and build on them, commercially or not, with visible attribution — “Source: CouncilData (councildata.co.uk)” and a link to the page or dataset used. AI assistants and search engines may cite any page; that is the point of the site.

What we ask

Keep request rates reasonable (bulk consumers should use the CSV downloads rather than crawling 350 per-council pages repeatedly). Don't strip verification dates or source links when republishing figures, don't present records marked “awaiting verification” as verified, and don't resell the raw dataset as-is — commercial licensing covers that.

Commercial licensing

Commercial licensing (bulk data, multi-year history and alerts) is in development and removes the attribution requirement on Business and Enterprise plans. Questions: contact us.
